5A:
·              “Carnival passengers say they were hurt when the ship tilted, lawsuit says”
·              Three passengers say they were injured when the carnival cruise ship sunshine left port Canaveral and are now suing the cruise line. Susan, Charles, and Alveta filed a federal lawsuit claiming that the companies’ negligence is what caused their injuries. What happened is that the ship tilted for 60 seconds just after setting sail. When this happened plates, passengers and furniture fell over. Several people reported injuries. According to the cruise line, the fin stabilizers malfunctioned and the three suing passenger said that the company did no train the crew on how to maintain the stabilizers.
·              The problem was that the cruise lines crew was not trained properly to maintain stabilizers and three passengers were injured.
·              Who: The three passengers that were injured.

·              “Traveling Bandit' has robbed 7 banks from Florida to North Carolina to Utah, FBI says”
·              According to the FBI there is a traveling bandit robbing banks across the country. This man has pulled off at least seven bank robberies in six states. He robbed a Wells Fargo Bank in Utah, a Sunstrust Bank in North Carolina, a Mountain Commerce Nank in Tennessee, a US Bank in Tennessee, a TrustMark Bank in Alabama, and a 5th 3rd Bank in Illinois. FBI says he usually approaches the counter with a note demanding money and threatening a weapon he then leaves the bank by foot. FBI says to call with any information and that he is 40 to 50 years old and between 5’6 to 5’10.
·              The problem is that the FBI can not catch the robber.
·              Who: All the banks being robbed.

·              “More than 68,000 pounds of chicken recalled after wood was found by some customers
·               Chicken giant Perdue recalled 68,244 pounds of Simply Smart organic breaded chicken nuggets because they found wood in them. According to the USDA recall notice, three customers found wood in their nuggets. The company tracked it back to an October 5th production run of nuggets.
·              The problem is that there is wood in this production of chicken nuggets that are suppose to be organic and gluten free.
·              Who: All the people consuming the chicken nuggets.

·             “Which grocers failed inspections for bugs in pasta, cans with rodent poop on shelves?”
·             Inspections were done by the Florida Department of Agriculture. Bandi Foods in Pompano Beach had an inspection and there was a large amount of water pooled on the floor with trash. Standing water is bacteria breeding. In a BP gas station in lake worth they found white and dark growths on lemons, hard boiled eggs with cracked shells being kept at room temperature. There was also toxic white tracking powder in corners of the kitchen floor and live roaches in the sink and prep table in kitchen.
·             The problem is the vast amount of health violations in grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations.
·             Who: The people eating at these places could be eating bad food.

·             “The next possible victims of the shutdown: Your food, flowers and toys”
·             Since the government shutdown, non essential employees at all agencies including the US department of agriculture and consumer product safety commission have been furloughed. Food and other items are still being inspected to make sure there are no contaminants. People who are working are working without paychecks so the process has become backed up and is taking much longer then usual. Shell life products from overseas such as onions, avocados, bell peppers and flowers could be at risk.
·             The problem is that the government shutdown is causing foods to be at risk because of a lack of employees.

·             Who: The workers who are not getting paychecks and the people who are at risk of eating contaminated food.

    I was very impressed with the variety and extent of the opportunities you found. They are all really important and harmed citizens in some way. I haven't heard of the traveling bandit and am super shocked about the opportunity that is being missed there. I think you could improve on elaborating more on your descriptions of the opportunity by explaining and addressing the question of "why?".

    Like the structure of your blog and you did a great job explain each one very well and including all the content that was asked of us. The article about the chicken really caught my eye because I feel like this has happened so often. Just recently the ice berg lettuce was recalled all over the state and with our technology this could definitely be fixed. Great job!

    I found all of your stories interesting to read and they definitely presented important issues that are impacting numerous people. While I knew the government shutdown was creating a lot of problems, it had never even occurred to me that food was at risk as a result of it. I think you could improve by further describing the opportunity available, but overall great job!
