9A- Testing the hypothesis

Who: Throughout all of my interviews I noticed that some people fell inside the boundary and some people could not relate or felt that they did not have a need for this. One of my interviewees was a male and he didn’t see the need for the ring with the alert. He also thought that guys were not as a big of a target for sex trafficking. He thought that the idea was good for girls because if they were to get kidnapped they wouldnt be able to stand up for themselves and fight back like a guy would. I agree with this to a point but some guys would also not be able to fight for themselves depending on the kidnapper.

What: One of my interviewers mentioned that this happens outside of college towns which is definitely true. It could happen in any party area or just in a random town. The only reason I specified it to college towns it because I want more people in college to be aware. Although it can happen anywhere, they mainly target young adult females and males which is the age of college students.

Why: I believe that females who have seen friends be affected by kidnapping would definitely feel a need to get this product. However, most people don’t ever think about this happening until its too late, therefore they wouldn’t feel a need to purchase it. I also think that parents would purchase this product for their children, just not sure if they would actually wear it.

                   Inside the boundary:
Who:   Young college students who are concerned.
Parents buying them for their children.

What: To reduce kidnapping and sex trafficking.

Why: For people who can’t defend themselves. Also when walking alone at night. Could happen when college students are intoxicated and not alert.

           Outside the boundary:
Who: People who never think about this happening.

What: To eliminate sex trafficking and kidnapping.

Why: Some of these people may never go out to bars or walk around by themselves so they don’t feel the need to purchase this. Also some people feel they can defend themselves so they don’t need an alert ring.

  1. Hi Jessi,
You have a great idea for a product and you did very well with testing the hypothesis. I was not surprised when you put men as one of the prototypical customers who fall outside of the boundary. Although men do get attacked, they are not as targeted as women. For my product, which is also meant to ensure safety, men were one of the prototypical customers who fell outside the boundary as well.
