1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
- The main theme/ purpose of this book is focusing on the behaviors and actions of specific entrepreneurs and their innovations over time.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
- I felt that this books connected with what I’m learning in ENT 3003 because it talks about creating new business opportunities and finding/ analyzing consumer needs for these new ideas. Ducker also goes on to talk about innovations and he says that they require “analysis of opportunities, receptivity to new opportunities, starting small, looking to the simple, and achievement of leadership.” In this class, we do talk about innovations and business ideas so I did feel a connection between the class and the book.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
- Part three talks about the strategies that entrepreneurs should follow in the marketplace. I think that this would be a good exercise because it would be more realistic than some of our other assignments because we would actually be learning and applying these strategies in the workplace. We could do this by having an assignment that makes you go in depth with each strategy and you would have to answer how you think you would apply it in the workplace. Some of these strategies are looking for new opportunities, starting small, and achieving leadership
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
- Since I’m a management major, I don’t know much about entrepreneur ship or how it works in a business. However, Ducker said something I found pretty interesting which was “All organizations must acquire entrepreneurial competence to keep pace with changes in economy and society.” I didn’t realize each company had to keep up with new innovations to be on the same pace as the economy and society. After reading through this it made sense to me, because everywhere around us businesses and products are evolving.
Jessi,
ReplyDeleteAwesome entry, very good in-depth analysis on what the author "Ducker" said about no matter what practice of business you are in, entrepreneurship is a competence that must be a cornerstone in whatever you do. Towards the end as well you linked back both these messages very nicely.
Hi Jessi!
ReplyDeleteGreat job making the connection between the book and this class. I can definitely see that connection you explained. I like the assignment you designed and agree that it is more realistic than some of the ones we have been working on. I also really like how you included quotes from the author to help back up your points. Awesome job on this post!
